Cleaning Leather Furniture

Reviewing Lexol Leather Cleaner, Conditioner, & Vinylex System

Lexol Leather Cleaner

The first piece of leather furniture I bought for my home was a TV lounge chair for my den/TV room. I'd love to say it was a Lazy Boy, but it wasn't. Just a simple TV chair made of pretty decent leather. It was really comfy and did a great job. Especially when you consider the fact that I don't watch too much TV.

After getting this chair, I decided that I needed a different leather cleaner from the one I was currently using; one that was more affordable, since furniture will naturally require more cleaner than a bag or wallet. So a trip to Costco later, I had bought myself three spray bottles. One of Lexol leather cleaner, one Lexol leather conditioner, and the last was Lexol's Vinylex cleaner for my boyfriend's speed boat.

Generally, when you buy any leather item, it's in great condition so it doesn't need any cleaning. However, I do like applying some conditioner  to it simply because I don't know the last time it was conditioned. So as soon as I got my Lexol products, I grabbed some sponges and started conditioning my TV chair. The conditioner was easy to apply and it smelled nice, which is great because I hate those chemical smelling products. What I really appreciated was that after I rubbed it down, I could use the chair almost right away! There was no residue or any grease left behind, which is perfect for those who own mostly leather furniture!

Being quite happy with how the conditioner worked out, I encouraged my boyfriend to try the Vinylex cleanser on his boat. Apparently you shouldn't really touch a boat once it's been 'winterized', but he gladly tried it out on his car, which has vinyl seats. It did wonders! Who knew his tan vinyl seats were really a lighter tan? We sure didn't, since he bought the car second hand! The cleaner just lifted away all this dirt and gave the vinyl a nice, soft, more leather feel to it! The product label also said it protected vinyl against UV rays, and when the spring came, he tested it on his boat, and on a piece of vinyl which we left out in the sun. Neither the vinyl on the boat or our test patch faded in the sun or showed any signs of drying! Now that's pretty awesome for a boat owner!

Around the same time my boyfriend was testing the Vinylex on his boat, it was time to clean my leather chair. I generally clean my leather products every six months or so, usually when spring comes and right around the beginning of autumn. So it was time to put the Lexol leather cleaner to the test. It was the last product in the trio and though I hadn't tested it, I knew it was going to work well.

Taking a sponge, I got to work! Sure enough, the dirt that had built up near the bottom of the chair, which is the part closest to the floor, was coming away easily and it left the chair quite clean. Funnily, when I applied the conditioner, more dirt was lifted away, so the conditioner itself may have some cleaning properties as well. After cleaning the furniture, I went on to clean all my other leather products with the Lexol system. The only thing I couldn't clean were my suede shoes and an aniline leather pillow. I didn't use it on either of these products simply because the Lexol website advised against it, and in my many years of leather cleaning, I've learned to listen to manufacturers' warnings!

I used Lexol leather cleaner and the conditioner for years, and I still use it for my larger pieces of furniture. My boyfriend still uses Vinylex for his boat and cars. I can attest to the fact that it protects leather and prevents cracking or premature aging while keeping it clean. In the many years I've used it, I've tested it on furniture, bags, belts, shoes, and old baseball gloves. It seems no matter how old or grimy a leather object is, Lexol is up to the task. I honestly have nothing bad to say about this leather cleaner, and I haven't yet found anyone with any complaints.

All three items I bought are now available as a package deal on Amazon.com, making it even more affordable for those with leather and vinyl cleaning needs! The package also comes with applicator sponges, which I happen to know are great for cleaning leather with!
